When: Friday March 7th, 2025 1:00p-7:00p Ice carvers begin setup and check in beginning at 11:00a Carving begins at 1:00p, and must be finished by 5:00p. Judging and trophy ceremony will begin at 5:30p and conclude by 6:00p.

What: Truckee River Winery is hosting a fundraising event with Truckee River Watershed Council. On-Site Ice carvers will be given 5 hours to sculpt their blocks of ice on Friday March 7th at Alibi Ale Works in Truckee. All carvers will be judged on artistry, creativity, level of difficulty and relevance. Carvers are encouraged to choose a design that emulates all three of these skills. A max of 2 individuals per team.

Waiver of Liability

In registering with this online application, applicants stipulate that Truckee River Winery, Truckee River Watershed Council and Alibi Ale Works, its agents, employees, and representatives have made no representation, promises or guarantees regarding locations or preferential treatment of any kind. In consideration of inclusion as a participant during the 2025 Wine N Ice and other good and valuable consideration, receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, particpant agrees to indemnify and hold harmless TRW, Alibi, TRWC and their agents, employees, representatives and assigns from and against any and all liability, loss, costs, demands, claims, fines, debts or judgements, that participant or participant’s members, performers, employees, independent contractors and/or volunteers may sustain or incur as a result of or arising from participation in the 2025 Wine N Ice organized by Truckee River Winery, Truckee River Watershed Council and Alibi Ale Works, such indemnification to include reasonable attorney fees.

By purchasing this registration you and all team members agree that you have read and understand all of the foregoing. In addition you and all team members will adhere to Competition Rules.

Competition Rules

1. Carvers must be 18 years of age.

2. Carvers must supply all their own tools and equipment, and are responsible for cleaning and safety of their carving area. Area must be cleaned and sculpture ready for judging at 5:30p.

3. Electricity will be available for all carvers, however TRW has a limited supply of extension cords, so any carvers that have extension cords please bring them.

4. Ice blocks will be delivered on Friday morning to cure prior to carving. All teams will receive their blocks at set up. All blocks will be placed on a pallet in the parking lot. Please arrive no later than 12:00p with your stand to help place ice block. Ice blocks can be placed either vertically or horizontally. An appliance dolly will be onsite to help with moving of blocks. Please notify TRW in advance if you need help with an ice block stand.

5. Truckee River Winery reserves the right to place you and your block in the location they deem most appropriate and necessary.

6. Care should be taken with ice blocks, if you break your ice block, you will not receive a replacement.

7. Carvings will be judged based on artistry, creativity, level of difficulty, and relevance.

8. Ice carving will begin no earlier than 1:00p and carving must completed by 5:00p for judging, however teams may arrange tools, prepare electric power lines, work benches and scaffolds before the official start of the competition, but must neither mark nor sculpt the ice blocks assigned to them.

9. Clothing for sculpting should be good for temperatures from +40F to -20F. Truckee, CA is always a great place to visit and can have incredibly nice winter days, however it can also still have cold, snowy day during the month of March, as well.

10. The air is mostly dry and there is lots of sunshine. Skin crème and sun block are recommended. Watertight, insulated boots and gloves are a necessity. Safety glasses, or at least sunglasses are protection from the sun as well as flying ice chips and are required.

11. Great care needs to be taken with the various power tools on slippery surfaces. Sobriety from drugs and alcohol is a must. Any and all outside alcohol is prohibited at Alibi Ale Works.

12. TRW will provide water, juice, coffee, and snacks for all contestants. Lunch can be purchased at Alibi Ale Works.

13. The winners will be announced and the prizes will be awarded at the event directly following the judging.

14. TRW judging criteria will be available for all contestants to see. The rules and requirements for the judges are available at the tasting room.

15. Each participant must sign a hold-harmless statement excusing TRW from all liability for potential injuries including the death, theft or damage to personal gear and equipment.

16. When completed, all sculptures become the property of TRW, which retains exclusive rights to the sculptures and may use any pictures, photographs, videos or reproductions in any commercial application.
