VINEYARDS

Truckee River Winery was established 20 years ago with the vision of sourcing quality grapes, bringing the fruit to Truckee in order to take advantage of the high elevation and cold temperatures, to naturally cool the fermentation and slow down the barrel aging process. Thus becoming the highest and coldest winery. Our focus from the beginning has been to produce hand crafted wines with great structure and finesse. Our award winning Pinot Noir is the winermaker's pride and joy. Come and visit our new tasting room and enjoy all of our unique and distinctive wines.

New Releases: ALMOST EVERY YEAR THE WINEMAKER SAYS "THIS NEXT VINTAGE IS SOOOO GOOD" AND THE 2006 IS NO DIFFERENT, VERY EXCEPTIONAL AND AGED SLIGHTLY LONGER BECAUSE OF THE ECONOMY AND IT IS SOOOO GOOD.

2006 Zinfandel - Lodi $25.00/bottle

2006 Pinot Noir - Garys' Vineyard $45.00/bottle

Russ Jones brings the Pisoni clone Pinot Noir grapes from Garys' vineyard up to Truckee to make a Pinot that is rich with berry accents flavors of cola, floral undertones and a hint of spice. The palate of this wine is highly structured with fine grape and oak tannin, flavors of cherry and cloves carry through into the lengthy finish. Russ has been making Pinot from Garys' vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands, Monterey County since the year 2000. This vineyard is planted exclusively with the Pisoni clone that traces its parentage back to "La Tache". Before that he sourced Pinot fruit from Carneros in Sonoma , he also worked in Oregon and San Luis Obisbo making Pinot Noir. The Garys' is a much bigger and more flavorful wine than any other vineyard Russ has worked with. Since Truckee River Winery is colder and higher than any other winery the pre-fermentation cold soak and naturally cool fermentation really tends to showcase the exceptional fruit of the Pisoni clone. Russ ages the wine in oak barrels longer than most wineries  because his barrel room is a snowbound red barn and it just takes that much longer at the cooler temperatures and higher elevation for the young fruity flavors to start to taper off and let the more mature flavors show through. This all results in a very well balanced and smooth wine with excellent mid pallet flavors and the ever present "pisoni backbone".

Truckee River Winery makes limited quantities of fine wines. Current production includes Pinot Gris, Lodi Zinfandel and Garys' Vineyard Pinot Noir and a small amount of Sauvignon Blanc. Winemaker Russ Jones oversees all aspects of these handcrafted wines. The tasting room is located at 11467 Brockway Road. Offering complimentary tasting, Earthly Delights deli items, Gift items, and a cozy fireplace. Open 11am - 7pm. Closed on Tuesday.  Please call (530) 587-4626.
